On this Sultry Summer day, I proceeded to go all the way out to Arlington to take part in the Mongolian festival. Of all the festivals I've been to this summer, this was by far the most modest. the Welsh festival was larger. And that's saying something considering how boring it was. Unfortunately the Mongolian festival didn't live up to my expectations.
I have been to many an Asian festival and they tend to be quite lively affairs. But this one left much to be desired. Perhaps because the festival was organized FMBM (for Mongolians by Mongolians). The food fare was limited. The festival consisted of nothing but nonstop Mongolian wrestling for the entire time I was there. Everyone either sat and watched or socialized. This is marginally different from Smithsonian sponsored festivals that focus on educating the public via displays or guest speakers. Everything was in Mongolian. I suppose in this way it was a more authentic event than something put on for tourists. Which would be fine, if I actually liked watching wrestling(Asian or otherwise). I wasn't able to sample the food. The line was too long and it was too hot. So, I still don't know much about what they eat in Mongolia. I'm pretty sure that the Mongolian Barbecue doesn't count (no matter how delicious).
BTW: My Mom is the most Awesome person I know. She was hit by a car, and then we hung out the next day.
...sounds riveting
